ST3400 TAWS/RMI
What is the Sandel ST3400 TAWS/RMI?
The Sandel ST3400 TAWS/RMI
represents a true breakthrough in TAWS technology.
It is the industry’s first self-contained Class A or Class B system
that includes an integrated full-color, multi-screen, edge-to-edge display with
a built-in RMI function.
Because the ST3400 is a
self-contained TAWS system that replaces an existing RMI, the ST3400 does not
demand the installation facility associated with other TAWS equipment. This
means a substantial cost savings on the installation and less downtime for the
aircraft. In many aircraft the ST3400 can be installed in half the time required
for other TAWS systems that provide only TAWS capabilities. The ST3400 can be
installed in most business aircraft for 50%-70% of the cost to install others
TAWS equipment. This includes installation, labor and all necessary interfaces.
In addition, the Sandel ST3400 provides higher graphics performance making it
the preferred TAWS solution.
Here are just a few of the
features that distinguish the ST3400 TAWS/RMI as the higher-performing TAWS
system.
- Integrated
color display. Provides full-time
situational awareness that greatly enhances flight safety-not shared with
the radar display
- Real-time
graphics. Unlike radar display solutions, the ST3400 displays move
with the aircraft heading instantly. It displays a true terrain picture with
no latency or delays
- Standard
3ATI chassis. The ST3400 has minimal or no impact on existing panel
layouts
- Mechanical
RMI replacement. Designed as a direct replacement for existing old
mechanical RMI’s
- Smart-interface
technology (Patent Pending). Compatible with all vintages of
aircraft systems both analog and digital
- Software
configurable. Allows the use of an aircraft resident configuration
module
- Minimal
crew training. Intuitive and easy to use, requiring minimal crew
orientation
- Patented
rear-projection technology. Use’s Sandel’s patented edge-to-edge
display technology providing a large viewing area that is sharp, brilliant
and easily readable even in direct sunlight. The Sandel ST3400 TAWS display
area is equal in size to a 4” display
The
TAWS mandate
You are probably aware that the
FAA has mandated that all U.S.-registered, turbine powered aircraft with six
seats or more to install a Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) by
2005. TAWS is the new enhanced technology that replaces Ground Proximity
Warning Systems (GPWS).
Key
Features
- A
self-contained TAWS system with integrated color display and RMI function in
a three-inch 3ATI package; no remote processors required
- The
most cost-effective and easy-to-install TAWS solution available
- Installation
time estimated at 30-60 hours
- Display
shows pilot-selectable RMI, terrain, and/or GPS/FMS flight plan
- Integrated,
two-pointer RMI with FMS available as an additional bearing source
- RMI
function defaults to TAWS warning when critical situation arises
- Requires
minimal crew training
- Standard
three-inch RMI-sized package has a minimal or no impact on existing cockpit
panel layouts
- Self
contained color display eliminates the need to timeshare with displays such
as radar, EFIS or Stormscopeâ
- Provides
predictive warning by comparing the terrain database to altitude data and
positioning information from a GPS receiver, INS, FMS or Loran
- Complies
with FAA Class A or Class B TAWS requirements for passenger-carrying
turbine aircraft
- Sharp
brilliant color display is readable even in direct sunlight
- High
reliability: 2,000 hour lamp replacement interval, 15,000 hour system
MTBF
- TSO'd
to C151a and C113a
Common
Applications
- Use for
cost-effective, high performance Class A or Class B FAA compliance
- Use
where ease-of-installation and minimum installation downtime is a primary
consideration
- Use
where panel space is at a premium and a 3ATI form factor is desired
- Use to
replace a mechanical RMI and gain TAWS compliance in the process
- Use
when integrated dedicated TAWS display is desired so that radar, MFD or
Stormscopeâ displays are not affected
- Install
two independent units cost-effectively to provide redundant (pilot and
copilot) TAWS systems
